Theatre-Hikes needs your help.
In order for our company to continue producing outdoor theatre-hikes
we are in need of financial contributions.
Theatre-Hikes is a not-for-profit theatre company. We are a public service and in order for us to continue doing what we do we need donations and sponsorships from the public, which reinforce our efforts as being of value to the public. Not only does Theatre-Hikes produce plays presented to audiences, we do it outdoors and ask the audience to hike to several different locations during the course of the event. The physical activity of walking during our productions provides the public with a new and healthy entertainment alternative.
WHY DOES THEATRE-HIKES NEED DONATIONS?
Although Theatre-Hikes pays everyone who works with us, all of us are underpaid in comparison to the time, energy and personal expenses we contribute to each of our productions. Our non union actors are currently paid $25 per performance. One of the reasons we are able to pay our actors even that minimal amount is because we save a lot of money on scenery. We don't construct scenery. We use the lush and beautiful backgrounds for our stage scenery at The Morton Arboretum, the North Park Village Nature Center, White Pines Forest State Park and at our other park locations. The majority of the money we take in from our productions is paid to actors, production staff and for costumes. We pay for rehearsal space and storage, play royalties, stage properties, publicity costs, script copies and more.
Weekday performances for schools is of great interest to Theatre-Hikes. In 2002 and 2003 we presented theatre-hiking productions for grade school children of The Ransom of Red Chief and Hiking with Johnny Appleseed at Chicago's Washington Park. Theatre-hikes, with being outdoors and with the walking to the various locations, is ideal for young audiences. But we have found that schools are not able to afford us at this time. Your donation would help to make it possible for such schools to afford our services.
We have been successful attracting large numbers to our performances and we have big plans for this 2008 season of theatre-hikes. Please join us as we strive to bring to our audiences these very special theatre-hiking events. Following are various levels of donations. All donators and their level of donation, will be listed in all of our productions' programs this season and on this web site page.
